An honest, hands-on guide to pet mealtime gear
PetMealGear is an independent editorial publication reviewing pet bowls, feeders, and water fountains. We test gear in real homes, with real animals, and write about the parts other reviews skip.
Our methodology
Every product on PetMealGear is scored against the same five criteria — build quality, ease of use, cleaning, value, and how comfortable our test animals were using it. We weight cleaning and pet-friendliness heavily because, in our experience, these are the dimensions that owners only learn after a few weeks of ownership.
- Build quality — material, joints, finish, and how the product feels and looks after a month of use.
- Ease of use — set-up time, daily filling, and (for smart feeders) the app experience.
- Cleaning — disassembly, dishwasher behaviour, and how stubborn it is when food dries onto it.
- Value — purchase price plus ongoing costs like filters, kibble pods, or replacement parts.
- Pet friendliness — whisker fatigue for cats, ergonomics for senior pets, noise for skittish dogs.
Editorial team
Our editorial team is a small group of pet-product writers, a veterinary technician on retainer for sanity checks, and the occasional cat or dog as a co-tester. We do not accept sponsored content, paid placements, or "review-for-product" arrangements with brands.
How we make money
PetMealGear keeps the lights on through affiliate commissions: when a reader buys through one of our outbound retailer links, we may earn a small percentage at no extra cost to them. Affiliate relationships never affect what we recommend or how we score a product.
